Grid Modification for Second Order Hyperbolic Problems
A family of Galerkin nite element methods is presented to accurately and e ciently solve the wave equation that includes sharp propagating wave fronts. The new methodology involves di erent nite element discretizations at di erent time levels; thus, at any time level, relatively coarse grids can be applied in regions where the solution changes smoothly while ner grids can be employed near wave ...
متن کاملStrongly hyperbolic second order Einstein’s evolution equations
BSSN-type evolution equations are discussed. The name refers to the Baumgarte, Shapiro, Shibata, and Nakamura version of the Einstein evolution equations, without introducing the conformal-traceless decomposition but keeping the three connection functions and including a densitized lapse. It is proved that a pseudodifferential first order reduction of these equations is strongly hyperbolic. In ...
متن کاملA Finite Element Splitting Extrapolation for Second Order Hyperbolic Equations
Splitting extrapolation is an efficient technique for solving large scale scientific and engineering problems in parallel. This article discusses a finite element splitting extrapolation for second order hyperbolic equations with time-dependent coefficients. This method possesses a higher degree of parallelism, less computational complexity, and more flexibility than Richardson extrapolation wh...
متن کاملNUMERICAL SOLUTIONS OF SECOND ORDER BOUNDARY VALUE PROBLEM BY USING HYPERBOLIC UNIFORM B-SPLINES OF ORDER 4
In this paper, using the hyperbolic uniform spline of order 4 we develop the classes of methods for the numerical solution of second order boundary value problems (2VBP) with Dirichlet, Neumann and Cauchy types boundary conditions. The second derivativeis approximated by the three-point central difference scheme. The approximate results, obtained by the proposed method, confirm theconvergence o...
متن کاملSimultaneous Exact Controllability for Maxwell Equations and for a Second-order Hyperbolic System
We present a result on “simultaneous” exact controllability for two models that describe two hyperbolic dynamics. One is the system of Maxwell equations and the other a vector-wave equation with a pressure term. We obtain the main result using modified multipliers in order to generate a necessary observability estimate which allow us to use the Hilbert Uniqueness Method (HUM) introduced by Lions.
